OCTOBER HARVEST HAS BEGUN!

Yes, this has been a totally different year that farmers and the Ag industry have experienced, but of course it’s not over yet.  Harvest results are coming in and many areas are less than favorable.  Yields vary from one end of the field to the other, and that includes soybeans as well as corn.  Farmers are assessing what should be done to prepare for next season’s crop.  As we reflect on this season, I think we can learn several things.

WHAT SHOULD BE OUR THINKING FOR NEXT SEASON?   

Harvest lets us see the amount of residue that is still on our fields.  That residue is money from our investment this season.  If we apply a residue management program including Humi-Till, which breaks down that very difficult corn stubble, then we will put nutrients back in the soil for next season, allowing us to possibly reduce some of our fertilizer input costs.  Remember only a small portion of the fertilizer is broken down during a growing season and needs microbial activity to convert it into plant food for the crop. Humi-Till is the perfect product to use when converting your residue into useable nutrient for next season crop. 

WHAT ELSE WE CAN DO?

Many farmers are considering planting fall wheat.  The wheat would provide additional income for next June and the market futures are looking good for growing wheat.  Monty’s has proven from years of research that adding Monty’s Liquid Carbon at wheat planting increases harvest an average of 10+ bushels per acre.
